Metsä Board and Kouvolan Lakritsi collaborate on innovative paperboard mug packaging

Packaging designs crafted from Metsä Board’s paperboard have won three Gold Awards at the European Carton Excellence Awards 2024. The awards, hosted by Pro Carton and the European Carton Makers Association (ECMA), were announced on 19 September in Berlin, Germany. In addition to the Gold Awards, two entries made of Metsä Board paperboard were recognized for the Innovation and Public Award categories.

“Producing highly challenging print and structures demands exceptional material quality, and the winning packaging concepts clearly demonstrate the versatility and premium quality of Metsä Board’s folding boxboard grades,” says Neil Fox, VP Sales FBB EMEA at Metsä Board. “On behalf of Metsä Board, I’d like to congratulate all winners and recipients of the European Carton Excellence Awards 2024.”

Arctic Blue Gin’s holographic Northern Lights premium sales pack, made from MetsäBoard Prime FBB Bright 380 gsm and converted by Grano Oy, was announced as one of the prestigious Gold Award winners. Anthon Berg’s Easter Celebration gift box, crafted from MetsäBoard Classic FBB 250 gsm and converted by Van Genechten Packaging, also received a Gold Award.

In addition, Pladis Global’s packaging for its McVitie’s Victoria Chocolate Creations biscuit selection, made from MetsäBoard Classic FBB 250 gsm and converted by Graphic Packaging International, won a Gold Award as well as the Public Award, as voted by industry professionals and members of the public.

The Innovation Award was presented to a cover kit concept developed and converted by Alzamora Group for OCB. The packaging is made of MetsäBoard Prime FBB Bright 170 and 235 gsm and was created to provide a reusable combination kit that eliminates the use of plastic bags.
